Event Description

The International Coastal Cleanup Day is started by Project AWARE Foundation, and now it is widely supported by water enthusiasts and environmentally aware people from over 175 countries in the world.

The Cleanup Day is set on the third Saturday of September each year, and this year it will be on Sep 18th. A lot of activities are going on on the Cleanup day in each coastal city. In China, the cities like Shenzhen, Xiamen, Hainan and Taiwan have been initiated by different organizations for same activities. Shenzhen has the best organized structure for the Cleanup Day, the widest range of people involved, and the deepest intensity of media coverage. For 5 years, a large number of environmentalists voluntarily came to Shenzhen beaches, to clean up the trash on and under the sea.

Below is the human characters made from last year’s event. This year, the characters will be “爱海洋 2010 SZ”(love the sea), each group will form a stroke for each character. So save the day, join and become one of us!

For those who will join this activity for the first time, this is only the start of the whole campaign. We will regularly make similar coastal cleanup activities throughout the year in future. We all love the sea, so let’s do something to make it cleaner!

Activities on the day:
11:00~12:00
Volunteers organized by companies and groups register at the beach (Golden Bay, Da Peng);

12:00~14:00
Lunch & some other environmental campaigns (such as campaign for using handkerchief…)

14:00 ~17:00
Making environmental vows and signatures;
Making human characters “爱海洋2010 SZ” by all volunteers;
Surround the coastal line hand-in-hand;
Beach cleanup by non-divers; underwater cleanup by divers
(400 volunteers organized by Houshan Volunteer Group will go to other beaches around Shenzhen and the trash collected by them will be delivered to Golden Bay beach at the same time.)

How to get there:
By car:
From Shenzhen city, go on Yanba highway, go off from ‘Kui Chong’ and follow the sign to “Dapeng”. Only 20 minutes drive from Dameisha.

By bus:
H92 (from 福田交通枢纽Futian Jiao tong Shu niu to Golden Bay)
Take E11 express or 364 (Shenzhen to Dapeng), or 818(Longgang to Dapeng), then take 966 from Dapeng to Golden Bay Resort.

Please arrive there by 13:00 for registration.

Notes:
Please watch your own belongs on the beach; don’t go beyond the event area; don’t use the disposable cups and take your own drinking cups; when forming the human characters, please follow the director’s arrangement in order to save time and energy under the sun; bring your own food if necessary, the resort can also provide food(not free); prepare your own stuff for outing, but the organizer will also dispatch T-shirts for all the volunteers.

Tommorrow would be a hot day, please remember to bring some stuff to protect from heatstroke, wear a hat, bring your own drinking cups, prepare a small recycling bag for collecting trash if possible...

Please take public transportation to get there before 1pm. Or if you really don't know how to get there, i will see if we can arrange you to join other groups' bus...
