1. How do you think the Olympics will affect the lifestyle of the
average Chinese 10 years from now? I think It will Only affect the actual promoters and athletes.
2. How will it affect the very poor? It already has done from the Olympic building is on now was only a year ago a small village with hundreds of families living there, and the government offered them ONLY one third of the going rate per sqm. Plus the poor people had no choice other than take the offer.....
3. How will it affect the national economy? Dramatically increase in the first quarter then it will spiral downwards coming to a standstill within 6 months.
4. How will it affect Chinese Culture? It will not affect it.
5. How will it affect the rest of the world? It will not affect it.
4. How will it affect Chinese Culture?

There has been a big increase of foreign fans for Chinese culture....
I am proud of being Chinese. ..
Up to now, our Chinese sportsmen did a good job
I am proud of being Chinese,to hold an Olympic is a chance and to show ourselves to the world, and now our 2008 Olympic is doing a good job,so everything can tell by itself.
1. No affect. It maybe historically significant to say China had a great Olympics in 2008 and look at how many medals they won (considering they had over 600 athletes compete), but otherwise, no big deal.

2. Won't affect them, life goes on and like one noodle shop lady said when a reporter asked her if she was going to watch the Olympics: "I've got to earn money to live, I have no time to watch it"

3. It will give Beijing and other Olympic venue cities a boost in income, but it's a short term effect as the Olympics will be done in 10 days. Besides, due to the rigid visa requirements by the government, attendence is not that high.

4. It won't

5. It's just another Olympics....
Hmmm, if you have time, please do explain.

Firework sales go up? China was already known for cheap products and cheap labor, not sure what the Olympics will change.

I'm not a math genius, but if China sends over 600 athletes and the USA like 597, doesn't it only make sense that these two countries will win the most medals? Oh wait, they are!!

I don't think Judo, Air Pistol, Weightlifting, Water Polo and other Olympic sports are considered "mainstream" sports that bring in the cash. Phelps has to win 7 gold medals before Speedo will give him a 1 million dollar bonus. Pro Basketball/Football/Baseball players blow that in one day.

It was difficult enough for foreigners to get visas for the Olympics, wonder what will happen for smaller venues.
Hi Professor, the topic of dicussion is how olympics will effect? what you have said above has nothing to do with olympics and its related to general chinese economy which everyone is quite aware of.

the economy will anyway grow for china and asia as the customer is here due to such a high population. if companies want to survive then they have to come to china for business and they need to keep buying as there is no other country which provides such a mass scale of acceptable quality products.
all companies, both big and small already know about China and might have already assessed a lot on how it can help their business, it all started from early 2000 and all corporations are well aware of it.

what you are talking about is very small business, almost negligible and the revenues could well be less than what the chinese burnt on fire crackers during the opening ceremony

i agree that olympics has got the awareness and publicity but not for business but the awareness for the normal prople around the world. business related awareness has already been there for a long time.
paying more attention to labor and environment is not due to olympics professor, its beacuse of a general awareness towards global warming and other corporate social responsibility issues related to a companies corporate citizenship. companies have long been coming to China regularly and new business generated is a continuing process which is ongoing starting from the last 8 years, so dont connect it to olympics.

infact business related travel is not happening these days during the olympics visa restrirctions. it stopped in june and will start agin after sept and this is well reported news and if you are into direct business or trading you will understand this better.

what you have been repeatedly saying above is not due to olympics, even without olympics it would have happened.
Agree with Professor, recall Olympic games history, along with contemporary China, no doult there are huge positive impacts on post -Olympic Games China, too obvious; if your guys ego blinds you, you might end up with double losses, which are cheap labor / product and cheap "girl friend"
Again, someone that knows nothing about International Business

This coming from an Arts & Crafts Teacher....

I think you fabricate most of your information.

Here's a nice read for you:

Dave, no harsh feelings about China, I just call 'em like I see 'em. No need to sugar coat. Doing business in China and the Olympics have very little long-term impact on each other. Companies are not swinging their decision to move into China, based on how wonderful the Olympics are.

All the things you have brought up are not related to th Olympics (plastic bags?). There is also a multitude of trade shows going on during this time (same as every year), not because of the the Olympics.

Unless your Michael Phelps or the pro basketball players, the general public does not even know the names of the other athletes from Team USA.

Air Pistol? Gimme a break, I don't see CBS, NBC, ABC, ESPN or any other major network, scrambling to land a contract with the Professional Air Pistol Shooters, or kids emulating their favorite badminton player.

By the way, more and more companies are also looking at Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand to start and/or expand their overseas interests.
Your last paragraph makes me laugh. You pull this one out of your @$*?? Besides Basketball, please tell me who it is being looked at and for what sport?

Yeah, blah, blah, blah. You got a new history everytime you surface on SZStuff.

First I dont teach arts and crafts, I teach western art history and advance design. Second I have a MBA in International Business and 18 years of business experience. Third I teach out of want not need as I am retired and no longer need to work full time or worry about money.

Don't forget 12 years in the Army, Special Forces wasn't it? Give it a rest smart guy.
