Is anyone using a China Mobile 3G sim card in a iPhone 3GS?

I just got a new phone and went to upgrade to a 3G card and they told me that because China Unicom signed the contract with Apple that the China Mobile 3G card will nort work in my phone.... Like most things in China I see more red tape/ink than truth..

Anyone have expierience with this???

Then you should open your eyes a bit, or even learn the language before making assumptions that in the end are wrong.

Yes.

... smart ass comments aside, yeah i got one 2, China Mobile is really just a spanky version of the CDMA network so the 3G is not really real... and yeah Unicom signed a deal with apple, but that's not the reason it doesn't work. The deal was for apple to make an iphone without wi-fi and the usual exclusive carrier thingy (like at&t or whatever sells iphone contracts but you can unlock your phone to work with any carrier, in this case, it just doesn't work)
No.

So your really offer nothing useful to a real question that I have, Why answer other than to look like an ass?

Seems you are the one making assumptions...I have actually have been here longer than the average white, brown, or black asshole....I can speak Mandarin very well and a bit of Cantonese as well...

Tell me.........how is my view of the answers that I receive from the China Mobile office wrong? I do not believe anything unless I can substantiate it....I do not care what country I am in an what color the person is that is telling me....I want to read it, touch it, smell it, fuck it, snort it, roll around in it and I will then decide if I buy what you are telling me or not....and my interpretation of a situation is just that....MY INTERPRETATION.

next time do that.....set them aside rather than be a wanker.

Thank you.....something useful finally....however I am well aware of this...I have had an iPhone for over three years....I am asking if you have experience with using a 3G China Mobile Card in a iPhone 3GS.
you silly worm
I haven't tried but it should work with any 3G phone. How can the sim card know if your phone is an iphone or whatever???
I am going to assume that it will.....but at the cost of a few hundred RMB....I thought I would ask before I went ahead with the purchase....thanks
If the phone is unlocked then you should be able to use any sim card
Could be the China Mobile wont support the same functions as China Uni
I know that telephones have something along the side of a "mac address" as computers do...the only thing that I can thin is that it will recognize that??? Not really sure if that is true or not....as I am not a phone guru...otherwise I would know the answer to my own question. Thanks though....
that's the thingamajig......
China Unicom is using WCDMA same with Europe...

China Mobile is using TD-SCDMA

i would guess this is why the phone card wont work, they are not compatible
This is what I have found as well....thanks for the post....I think that this is closer to the truth than what I was told at the store today....which is possibly why the discussions fell apart with China Mobile and Apple??? Either way...thanks again!
Here's the REAL answer:
http://mystockvoice.wordpress.com/2008/12/17/china-looks-to-3g-netw...

"As expected, China Mobile, the market leader, will receive a licence for TD-SCDMA, the country’s homegrown 3G standard. China Unicom, the second-largest player, is to receive a licence for W-CDMA, the European standard. China Telecom, the incumbent fixed-line operator but a newcomer in mobile services, will be given a licence for CDMA 2000, the US standard. "

Basically you have to make sure what standard your mobile phone supports and then join that telecom company, that's the bottom line. I have a 3G Nokia E71 from HK and had to switch from China Mobile to China Unicom since I wanted 3G access after I moved to Shenzhen. I'm planning to write a review about the service so far in a blog post soon.

And I did try to put a China Mobile 3G SIM card in my phone but it didn't work as expected. So by all means, try it yourself at your local telecom store with your Iphone, they all have sample 3G SIM cards to try out. In the end you're most likely gonna have to go with China Unicom if you want 3G. Once you go 3G you'll never go back! But more on that in my review.

PS. China Mobile wants Apple to support it's standard in future versions.

Joeseph,

Well done.....it seems that I have no option left other than going with Unicom...my 3GS is a HK phone...
