More differences than similarities. I prefer Hong Kong; yay to secondhand English book stores.

You can live well in either city and protect yourself from the rat holes with enough money. You need 2-3 times more in HK than in SH. Say HK$15,000/month in HK to survive and HK$35,000 to live reasonably well.

I don't want to judge the difference between Shanghai and Hongkong. To me, I like Shanghai more because it's my hometown, I was born there, lived there for the last 26 years...
One thing must say, either of them has their own beauty side and ugly side. They are two different unique cities, or, counties.

honestly this is lame question.
all cities in China, even in all other countries in the world are different than eachother.
if you would like to know the differences, better visit/live in those places...

its true........i lived in shanghai b4 coming to sz...........the only difference is that HK citizens have more govt. benefits than shanghainese people.........but shanghai is better than HK otherwise

No difference to me..people looks like Chinese....
