As a foreigner, do you mind being stared at?

  • Rating: No Rating
When I walk through any city in China I am frequently stared at.

At first I was a bit unnerved by this - it isn't polite to stare so hard in the West - but now I'm used to it. After all it's nice to be noticed instead of being ignored, kind of makes you feel valued in some odd sort of way.

I'm stared at even more if I'm walking with a Chinese girl. Does that make me more of an oddity?

Are the people who stare checking me out?

If this happens to you, how do you feel about it?

I only get stared at when my cleavage is exposed. Cleavage on this side of the planet gets more attention than exposed thighs, I guess.

If you expose cleavage and thighs, I'll take you up on that lunch offer.

One time in Dongguan I just happened to have many girls around me. Later on we all met with other friends of ours, but wha! The looks I got. I don't mind so much though, I find it easier to strike a conversation then in Hong Kong. I am happy to have some Cantonese skills, this helps.

In the USA when someone stares at me I usually pick my nose to make them turn away. If I do that here, the person staring at me always starts to pick his own nose while continuing to stare. I really don't mind.
