I want to buy a laptop and they seem to be about 50% more expensive for the same specification in China as the UK. I was thinking of going over to Hong Kong to get one but wouldn't mind checking out the prices first. I know where the huge electronics market is but would like to scope out the prices first.
Does anyone know any good HK sites for electronic goods, something like www.ebuyer.co.uk but an HK version. I've been to manufacturers sites like HP HK and they seem to again be about 40% more expensive than the UK for the same specification.
(Sites that are in Chinese are fine as long as they have all the information)
I join in the question! Planning to buy a new laptop too and was thinking of going to HK, although not sure where a good computer market is. Never had to look into it in HK before.
There's one in the 'Golden Computer Center' in Mong Kong which I went to before which had more electronic equipment than I'd ever seen in my life... I'm wondering whether to just take a trip over there tomorrow to check it out, but don't want to waste time browsing stuff if I know I can buy one from the UK and save myself a load of cash and not get lumbered with a US keyboard layout.
Haha, yes, I keep pressing " instead of @ all the time!
Yes, it'll be a lot cheaper than China still due to the tax the government puts on things to stretch the market for as long as it can... but as for HK I don't know that's why it would be good to be able to view a website.
Not sure about the keyboard layout either, quite possibly, but I really don't know, another good reason to be able to check on some kind of website.
I just bought a new computer this past weekend. I was considering buying it in HK, because it was a tad bit cheaper, the exchange rate better and it was in English. But my office manager told me about people getting nailed at the border crossing for electronics tax and the fact that I wanted the box and everything that came with it, just decided to buy it here.
Fortress Electronics: www.fortress.com.hk has a website and I'm sure Broadway does too. Best bet is to head to Sham Shui Po.

Good idea to buy your laptop on Hongkong. The laptops sold in China now have a spying software from the Chinese government pre-installed. That makes it easier for the government to sniff in your personal messages and pictures and also makes it easier for hackers to enter your computer.
When buying in HK i would check in the big chains like Fortress and Broadway for good models and prices, but than buy it in the Mong Kok computer market or Sham Shui Po or Star House Computer Center becasue they will give you discount and some extra accessories for the same computers.
