Hunan TV Missing child show - is this an acceptable use of popular media ?

This is on now.

The first gut reaction is this is voyeurism. Tragic scenes of family members seaching for a missing child complete with sad melodramatic music.

It does not help that the TV studio part is so slickly produced.

However, it may well be that this show may find the child as they have massive viewing figures and loads of people on some kind of elevated wall in the studio taking phone calls from people who might have seen the missing child.

If the child is found as a result of this, is it a good thing to have broadcast this show ?

What's the harm if it helps find the kid and draws attention to this type of thing?

I was walking past a hospital today where a woman was frantically looking for her kid who wandered off when she was registering. Some one said he saw the kid down the road wandering around but could easily been kidnapped. Hope she found him.

To me ,Hunan is just a place where I originally came from, but to my surprise, it seems like that It could always leave some people a certain impression, that I wonder Why ?

unless the children themselves do not want to be found out .. show's initial attention could be kind for helping,  anyway, its much better than broadcosting some other stupid programs like reporting so called movie stars etc.
This kind of show is much better than endless hours of bad music being lip-synced. And possibly something good will come of it. So I'm in favor of it.

everyone get what they want,

it is a show, but perhaps more than a show.

When people in China stop turning a blind eye to human trafficking, dumping little girls off at orphanages or intentionally failing to claim the birth of a baby because of it's sex, then I will consider such shows of merit.  It's like being shocked at a Jerry Springer show when one only has to drive through a trailer park or the hood to see the same thing on a daily basis.

I am all for it even if only one child is reunited with it's family.

Also, here's a link to a site dealing with lost and kidnapped children:
