Can I ask you one thing, are you apprehensive about enrolling your children into the public school system here?

Hell yes. Not only am I concerned about the quality of the education, but also how well my son will be received when he clearly is not full Chinese. If we are still here when he gets old enough, I expect that I may enroll him in an international school. I hear that there are some good ones in Nanshan.

What about you?

Yes, I am concerned, but we intend to be back home before that.

The reason why I asked, and it is pertinent, my son recently told me I was embarrassing him.

I asked why, and he told me, he has been raising his hands to answer the questions.

The teacher told him, he was wrong, and the other children laughed at him....

I responded, so what.......to err is human, and that , one cannot learn anything unless they make a few mistakes beforehand.

It was this , that annoyed me, the compatmentalised teaching they offer here, and the fact that, even though he is fluent in Chinese, speaks Cantonese and English too, he doesn't share the common intellect, so although he is popular and understands others, they don't understand him, and subsequently has made it very awkward for others to understand him.

Anyway, he isn't up on some sort of pedestal, but I have told the teachers in no uncertain terms, let him express himself, and let him be.

At any early age, the preschools, and kindergartens, are rumoured to be better than the foreign schools here, but at primary school age, if we were to stick around, I would consider none other than a foreign language school.

what you expect kiwi...blind teach the sighted?

what you expect kiwi...blind teach the sighted?

I have grown to expect this form this culture, so yes.....painfully so!
