I know this topic may have probably already been covered, but my husband and I would like to buy a car in China and want to know what paperwork we need to do it. We both have Chinese drivers licenses - but what else do we need to buy a car? We are able to pay cash for the car. Thanks in advance for advice!
Hi Andrea..well and good for you both your husband. Buying car whether old or new is easy as 123.
I bought a used second hand car and the only doc i showed was my passport and my countrys DL. If your buying a new car then that would be much easy as the motor shop has its own people taking care of everything..you just provide them your passport and visa, chinese dl and the rest is fine.
by the way, where and how do you applied your chinese dl's and whats the process??
Thanks for reply - that sounds easy, we have had more of a hard time trying to buy one in Dongguan, so maybe we will try Shenzhen instead. For the driver's licence we did it through the Guangdong Expat Centre - they organise it all for you and you just have to turn up at a "showing up" test after providing a copy of your original DL etc. Very simple. Hope that is helpful.
Hi Eric, you are making it sounds so easy. Unfortunately i have gotten quite a bit of run around. Not knowing the complexities, I went to BYD dealership in Dongguan and picked a car and they assured me no problems in 3 days I get the registration, license plate, and insurance.due to holidays must wait a couple of days to start...after paying cash for all they told me, I must provide a legal chinese name and instructed me how to get it, so I paid 400 rmb, waiting 15 days to get a certified chinese name and passport translation. after providing that they told me sorry, I must provide a residence card to put the card in my name or put the car in chinese company name... I am still on business visa, not work visa and my driver license in process (may be 20 more days to get it). No tag, no insurance, etc, etc..... hmmmm, any suggestions....
Basic paper of "foreign resident certificate" or/+ other necessary papers selling cars agent can serve all (pc of dragon service); instalment needs mortgage e.g. house owning certificate etc ....
Hi places to introduce you in Shenzhen city; for new cars at "鹏程宝汽车城" (BaiShiLu crossing with QiaoChengDongLu) where selling various brands' there & it's a rather comfortable place to purchase; for 2nd hands' markets at 宝安北路 (BaoAnBeiLu) area around 笋岗 (SunGang) e.g."华南汽车展示交易中心"opposite to "HOBA"(home furnishings); or if you need further assistance.
Other.. by the critical knowledge of selling foreigners can lead buyers to complete transaction easier/less frustration.
