Why?
I went to my car dealer today to buy a new insurance. When I was parking (head first), I heard tap on my window. I turn around and the baoan is there with a big smile. I roll my windown down and ask him:
Me: What's up?
Baoan: You need to park tail first (still huge smile on his face)
Me: Why? What's wrong?
Baoan: It will be too difficult for you to drive out if you park like that.
Me: (My face was like what??) Do I have to park tail first?
Baoan: (nodding) Yes, is easier for you.
Me: Is there a rule on this parking lot where it says I have to park tail first?
Baoan: No, but you should (Still huge smile on his face ???)
At this point, I roll my window up and use the next 3 second to finish parking my car. The Baoan at this point was with his mouth wide open like "OH NO, he did park head first!!!!". Just so you know, as it took me three second to park in, it took me three seconds to drive away.
Now a couple of weeks ago in Sam's Club, I saw this lady trying for like 10 minutes to park her car tail first on a very narrow spot between two car, but if done head first was much easier. A baoan was trying to give her directions and after a while he was like "Fuck this" and walk away!!! This created a jam on the parking lot, so while some ppl got off their car to help the lady park her, I was waiting next to my car (parked head first) I started chatting with a fellow driver that was also waiting:
Me: Does she HAVE to park like that?
Other driver: How else you want her to park?
Me: Head first
O.D: (Looking at my car parked head first) Oh, you are AMERICAN!
Me: No, I am not. Why do you say that?
O.D: Because Americans like to park head first.
Me: It is not about liking, is about being practical. How are you going to open your trunk (driving an Audi Q5) and load your groceries when your tail is against the wall?
O.D: Well, you got a point there, but when you want to drive away is VERY difficult.
Then the jam got resolved, and the guy drove away, just like me.
Well after such long posting, if I did not bore you yet, my question is: Why here people MUST park tail first? Is it something that they teach in driving school? Is it really difficult to drive away when you part head first?

I have noticed that too, they always park tail first (or usually they can not park at all). I have never asked the reason though. But If the reason is like what you heard, then it is so stupid. Maybe it will be easy to drive away but it will also be difficult when you park at first place. Does not matter how easy/difficult before or after.
Personally I park head or tail first depends on the space, conditions, other cars at both side etc..

The guards from my compound explained me that those people (as well as those sometimes randomly parking on my spot) are coming home drunken (& driving) and so can't do better that night... Next day many cars park normal again. But some of course fail always, even when sober (&driving :-|)

The baoan was behaving properly, he tried to help this women for like 5 minutes to no avail. If I was him, I would have done the same.

because they struggle looking behind them, doing two things at once, Ie: thinking and driving at the same time is not something they are good at.
I presume when you say park tail first, you mean, they reverse their car into a parking spot between two parallel lines, so they can drive out without reversing correct?
I park both ways, usually tail first, but I can get that car in their in no time flat, some parking spaces offer you a longer turning angle one way or the other, depending on what other obstacles or barriers may be nearby.
I know what you mean though, if they need to hold up traffic for an extra ten minutes, why don't they simply try an easier method, it does my f&^king head in too, sometimes driving in front end first, let's you in, and is least disruptive to other drivers, given the fact that most locals wouldn't even register 1% on a defensive driving test in the West.
Is that too mean, ah fuck it's the truth, they are good at lot's of things, but they are piss poor at driving, thats the sad truth!

I think head in or tail in first does not make a difference, I'll do whatever feels easier and move on. I will not try to park in a way I think it will take a lot of maneuvering to do, or a lot of time for that matter.
But, on WM or Sam's Club which is a place where you go buy your groceries and you usually load them on the trunk, some of these brilliant guys (specially those with SUVs) have to drive out of the spot, block the whole road, so the can open their stupid trunk and load the shit the just bought. Sam's Club parking lot has a lot of walls and if you park tail first, reaching the rear of your car with a trolly full of stuff is impossible!!!

They will drive their car out into the middle of the through-way, stop so they can put groceries in their boots, while disrupting the natural egress, and ebb and flow of traffic.
It is one of the most retarded things I have seen, and like yourself, it's not one of these things, where they haven't thought about it, they simply don't give a fuck, courtesy is something which one may only recieve after a shitload of arse kissing and a few hong bao's; however, there isn't a "natural" inclination to be anything but discourteous when they are behind the wheel, annoys the shit out of me too!

Sorry, by critical thinking I meant common sense.
But what I find even funnier is that when you try to be courteous to them while driving, they CHOKE!! The DO NOT know what to do.
Like, if this guy is ready to cut you off so we can get out of his spot 1 second faster and you stop and let him go first, HE DOES NOT MOVE!!! And keep looking at you, like "What you doing?"
Same with pedestrians, is they are crossing in GREEN and you area allow to turn on the same junction, chances are that you are going to find ppl rightfully crossing the road in GREEN, so you stop and let them cross first. Well, they freeze in the middle of the road and don't know if to go back or keep crossing, if to run or what.
I once even have this group of ppl, right in front of me that instead of crossing the road (right on the middle of the read) where pointing at me saying, "A foreigner driving a car!!!!". It was hilarious really, but CAME ON!!!

It's right that driving school teaches them paring tail first. Simply because this is the only way tested during the license exam.
Besides this many place have an (un)official policy of parking same way. I even had this fight with a baoan when I was parking my bicycle... They want it to look harmonious... but it's just so ridiculous. -

When my wife was still learning how to drive, of course, parking was (still is) one of her worst nightmares.
Sometimes she did not want to drive because she was afraid of dealing with parking the car. And guess what, she ALWAYS tried to park tail first, when it was obvious that she does not have the skills to do it (still doesn't).
After a lot of re-training (psycho therapy and re brain washing included), she is starting to park hear first and gaining a lot of confidence on what she does. Eventually she will be able to do tail first.
Parking policy, Harmonious? Hahaha. Guess that some baoan are just too bored
