In that final game of yesterday with only 20 seconds to play I missed a nice interference. Later yesterday night I was looking through some Ljubojevic games and found exactly the same blow in his game against Byrne (Sao Paulo, 1979).

In our game Re4! kept Black's advantage here and later (when Stu's queen moved to h6). In GM's game Byrne made a mistake playing Rf7; he should've played 1. Qc8 Rc8 2. g3 with imminent Rf7 threat (+2.5). Needless to say, Ljubo played Rf4! solving all problems and winning the game eventually.

Some chess movement is expected today in La Casa. Me and Stuart have been playing there regularly each Saturday (6 or 7 out of last 9 Saturdays nights) but there was almost zero activity apart from our matches (which are quite exciting; I have good record but the games are very close and strategically tense). Last Saturday a couple of chinese FM's came up to play but I'd left by that time so Stewart had to face them. I wonder where Cyril is, I want to see him playing against Stu; they have different styles so it must be interesting to watch. Cyril is careful Smyslov-Petrosian-Andersson like, and Stu is ruthless tactician like Stein.

Ni hao,

For anyone in Luohu, we have a small group which plays Thursday nights in Luohu if anyone is interested.  We either play at the Starbucks on Tainning Lu near ViCity Mall.

Email me if interested: d dot shadock at gmail dot com.

Cheers, Daniel

I'd like to join anyone playing chess at Frankie's. I don't know where Frankie's is, so if someone would be kind enough to tell me, that would be appreciated. I look forward to playing chess and meeting new people from this group.

Umberto, I will take one and bring you the money the next time you say you will be at La Casa.  I think we should try Frankie's for playing chess some time.  Quiet, good food, cigar bar, etc.
