Comment by G on September 18, 2011 at 8:15am INVOICE - RECEIPT ... and BILL.
What is a "Bill" ? It can be short for a persons name "William / Bill" as in Ex USA President "Bill Clinton". In business in comes from an old saying "Bill of Sale or " Bill of Fare".
A "Bill", like an invoice is a piece of paper requesting payment. However, a bill usually requires immediate payment.
In a restaurant you would ask for the bill. The waiter will give you (or "present") the bill to you, you check it's correct, you offer the waiter money which is the same amount as stated on the bill (or more money and get change). You have then paid the bill. If you pay by card, you will get a receipt to prove you have paid by card, sometimes you will get a receipt if you pay by cash, or you have to ask for a receipt.
