I wish I could find drugs like that - Shenzhen's a dump, it's beaten out by every place in Europe that isn't Chernobyl. Hard times are coming too - the myth that China has to keep making shed loads more money daily is coming to an end. And given that the Chinese newspapers have acknowledged that it seems baffling to me that delusional expats won't.
What strong language? **** wit.
such strong language.....I see no need for that....
I'm not staying Tee, so politely put; shut the **** up.
Shenzhen (and China as a whole) - is becoming rapidly more expensive thanks to massive inflationary pressures - that's why Guangdong has the highest minimum wage in China. Year on year inflation is 8% (cancelling out much of the economic growth) - because you can give people more money, but if they have no additional supplies to sell them - prices rise.
sometimes I wonder why people stay in China, when they feel so strongly about it being such a bad country...depressing even
I'm not sure what you're implying about Yorkshire given that it's significantly nicer to live in than anywhere in China. Even Leeds looks like a shining metropolis compared to Shenzhen, and that's genuinely depressing.
Thank you for the lecture, and you're wrong. Hot and mercenary is not a prosititue, unless you classify every trophy wife in the world as a prostititue. It means that they've chosen security over attraction. This explains why hot guys get the girls in their youth, and accountants get them in their 40s.
I lived in the UK and I live here - the cost of living is based on experience. Central London is different, but I didn't live in Central London.
Quick comparison - cost of rent in the UK, 5500 RMB/month for a large 3 bedroom house in Yorkshire, cost of rent in Shenzhen for similar size property 10-12,000 RMB/month in a good area. My home in Yorkshire came with world class appliancecs - my home in Shenzhen comes without an oven, and all appliances are significantly lower quality.
Cost of 1 week's groceries in the UK - around 500-750/RMB per person, cost in Shenzhen 500-750/RMB per person. But with a much thinner selection in the stores.
Cost of a pint in my local - 3 pounds fifty pence, cost in a Shenzhen expat bar - 35 RMB. The same.
Cigarettes - China wins hands down - cost back home 60-70 RMB/pack here 15-25 RMB for an equivalent brand.
If you mean - live like a local and it's cheap - that's true, but it's also depressing and if you become an expat to eat low quality meals and live in crappy accomodation - I really don't understand what drives you at all.

They do this all the time, I think you'll find you need to fly to Guangzhou rather than Shenzhen with a cat and yes you'll almost certainly want to avoid Hong Kong.
I moved here a few months ago from the UK to do the same and I would say the opposite.
My experience is that wherever you live in Shenzhen it is easier, cheaper and takes less time to fly to HK than to Shenzhen or Guangzhou airports (let alone going via Shanghai or Beijing).
Good luck and all the best
My wife and I are moving to Shekou in August to teach. We are bringing our cat. Trying to figure out the details. Seems that flying into HK will complicate things. Is that correct. Maybe better to go to Beijing or Shanghi and then to Shenzhen would be easier. Any experience with this recently would be great if you could share it. Thanks
