Hi Megan, I used this agency when I first got here....they serve mostly expat so are more "proper" than local agents. Also they understand foreigners' taste in housing better so less ching cheong selections. But for 蔚蓝海岸 you just have to take a MRT to 登良站 and you will see lots property agencies around the development.

Hi Chee Seng,

Thanks for your tips! Yes, I was looking at 蔚蓝海岸 as well. I have another friend who suggested this place, so I think I'll request for that when I meet up with the recommended agents from my company.

Thanks so much again for the tips. :)

Hi Megan,
If you are looking for an apartment in 后海 that's not way expensive, my suggestion is 蔚蓝海岸 wife and me have lived here for nearly 4 years and found the property management to be fairly decent and grocery shopping very convenient. The MRT line 2 登良站 is also right next door. There are many new apartments one MRT stop south but they are quite expensive and the amenities are not as developed.

Hi Megan by far the most reliable and easiest VPN I have been using is VPN Express, which is a free to download app from iTunes which can be installed simultaneously on multiple devices. Credits are not expensive but make sure you download and setup your ID before stepping behind the Great Firewall of China.

Hi Meg,

then u should look for something next the MRT, at least to n fro travel timings are fixed and constant.  MRT timing for peak is from 1 to 2 mins. Off peak is from 3 - 5 mins.

Hey Frederick and Cuppacaffine, thanks for your replies!

I'm looking at nanshan area as its nearer where I work, don't want to spend too much time commuting to work everyday. My company is not going to help me though, since I'm hired on local terms. So with the numbers they gave me, I guess I'll just make an appointment to meet them when I come over next month.

Right now I'm looking at Houhai area and also TaoYuan area, really hope that I can get an apartment within a week. :/

Hey Megan,

I also happen to live in Nanshan area, approximately 150 meters within the radius of Daxin Metro station. It's a pretty nice neighborhood, accessible to everything you can think of. In fact, there's a couple of sg peeps living in this area, and a few living in same apartment block as mine. Initially I pretty much did what Federick suggested... Then I gave up and got my company to deal with housing. Agents here can be quite unscrupulous: pics you see online are mostly "for reference only"; be surprised if you actually get to view an apartment that's the same as the pics! And knowing you are an expat means extra mark ups for the agents. Apartments here can cost around 3500 RMB upwards depending on level of furnishings & vincinity. Of course that said, there are always exceptions.

Good luck to your house hunt!
