That is a Mosuo gesture.  The girl sits on her balcony overlooking the street and when she sees a guy she likes, beckons him to join her.  There is only one room in the house and the beds are are just curtained off it.  I'm not sure I could with her mother sitting right outside, but I never had to find out.
