- I am a very cynical, no drama, no bullshit older man. I'm still young inside but sometimes the body don't catch up with the young mind. No need to apologise, really. You were quite correct in discerning that Discussion was intended to attract major attention, and it worked. I've not been commenting so much lately because I've been spending more time in China and only get online in the office, where I am supposed to be working. I don't own a computer so I'm not online at my flat - it's not worth it because I'm out almost every evening, meeting people. Many of those on this site are close personal friends now, and I met most of them through these Discussions.
I like to meet people who are mature enough to have a point of view and are articulate enough to express it. I live in Futian and I see that you are in Shekou, but we should get together sometime with a bunch of the others to discuss the state of the universe.

To start off with a couple of quotations:

I feel that your grasp of irony may be a little loose but, as that's part of the point of my postings, I'm impressing even myself and that's a hard thing to do. I mostly don't care whether they love me or not but, if they look interesting enough, I do care if they meet me. The best friends I've made on this site all have the language ability and openness to sit round a table and talk about almost anything. I certainly wouldn't consider them to be a clique, which to me implies a closed circle, but a constantly transforming group of interesting and amusing people. Those who don't talk, or insist on talking business or unsubstantiated moaning, don't get re-invited, but there are many who join me on a semi-regular basis.
I also use the site to find people to travel with - I visited Yunnan with a Yunnan native, Guangxi with a Guangxi native and have been to Guizhou over the recent holiday. This I find to be a very rewarding way to see places and to understand what I'm seeing. I have people lined up for Sichuan and Shaanxi for the next half year and hope to see as much of China as I can while my body holds out.

The "major attention" is exactly correct. For me the point of a social networking site is to identify people that I'd like to meet and then meet them, so that's what I do. I do it in the ways that seem to work best for me - it seems your interests are different from mine - what are they?
