I am mostly giving lessons and run my surfing trips in Hainan. Because there the conditions are so good. 280 days a year of suitable wind to learn. Unlike Shenzhen where the conditions aren't that steady. Yet it's a great place to relax and if lucky, it might be windy on weekends.
For wave surfing, DongChong or Xichong are cool. Can have nice waves and you can rent boards. There is a place cold BLUE Surf club in Dongchong beach, they've got what you would need for a day. Try the Zen guest house there, if you want, I can put you in touch with my great buddy, Sonny who owns the place.
