For the first time in my life I missed a plane last Thursday. I have probably caught close to a thousand.
I was going to go via Luohu and thought to catch the bus at Sheung Shui, but it was pissing down with rain and there was a taxi waiting for me so I jumped in and headed for Huanggang. On a good day on that route it takes an hour to the airport and the worst I’ve had previously is two hours, so I allowed myself three hours for the trip to arrive an hour before take-off. It took…

It started last autumn, chronologically centred around a trip to Saigon. I thought that no relationship was likely or reasonable and continued on that basis. Too many of us are captives with no freedom of choice. Then a chance meeting just before Spring Festival forced me to look at the whole thing again.
I thought for a long while and eventually started doing something about it a week ago. As of yesterday, I had decided that I had been right, and there could be no relationship. …

I am seeing a bunch of blue links on posts, usually underlined in some way. I thought that it was a problem with my son's computer, but I ran a full scan and nothing significant shows up. The properties show it to be:
http://api.viglink.com/api/click
which is an advertising service, and it seems installed by the site owner, according to my google searches. So if you want to make money for David, then click away, but if you're a…

I’m not sure which is the busiest shopping street in Shenzhen, but for electronics and clothes, Huaqiangbei Lu [HQB] must be right up there. About four weeks ago I saw them digging up all the attractive palm trees that lined HQB and the following week some hoardings went up, and now the full scale of the disaster is apparent.
The road is closed to traffic and the previously broad footpaths are restricted to about 2 metres in many places, but there still seem to be about the same…

I'm in the SZ Daily today so I want to buy a paper edition. I know that none of the news stands very close to my home carry it but, as I was going to HK in any case, I thought I could buy one easily near the Luohu border crossing or railway station. I couldn't. I wandered for about 30 minutes, found three news stands, but none had a SZ Daily. So I'm stuck with the online edition. It starts off like this:…

Some people seem to be under the impression that I spend most of my time idling around. Well maybe that’s true, but sometimes I do some work. Last Friday I did part of a presentation at Legco in Hong Kong for the Public Consultation on the Road Harbour Crossings project. For the last one I did the whole presentation, but this time Transport Department did the numbers part and only left me with a brief slot on the transport model.
I use minimal slides so that people will watch and…

I spent much of yesterday in electronic communication with three emotionally significant girls from my last ten years. One is regretting a decision she made six years ago, one is making a decision that I hope she won’t regret, whichever way she chooses, and one is just a bit bored at home with her family.

A few people have been suggesting some get-togethers over the next few days. However, courtesy of HK Transport Bureau, my availability is limited. I have five meetings in the next three days, and to make a good start the first one is at 8:20am near Admiralty tomorrow morning.

"I know myself and I know the depth of my selfishness. I cannot be at ease (and to be at ease is my chief wish) if someone else is in pain. Sometimes this is mistaken by the innocent for unselfishness, when all I am is sacrificing a small good (my immediate convenience) for the sake of a greater good - a peace of mind - when I need only think of myself."
Adapted from The Quiet American by Graham Greene.
This seems applicable to me, but I have become aware recently…

Shuang said… Well Shannon does really looks like Thai I agree, maybe because of her skin color. Yes no more face difference topic.Btw you know my name & face, what do you want to know more? I graduated last July and came to work in SZ like around half a year. That's it!
I do not really trust this kind of website stuff. ps: for ur request, accepted!
Shuang said… Check out if you can tell the eye difference between Chinese & Korea. We are different! what do you mean by making real effort. But I know the feeling when we meet someone looks like so familar. It happened last week. I just cant stop staring at them haha...
ps I did NOT turn down your friend request.
It's possible someone posted a link which both you and Val followed to an infected page. However, I can tell you with 100% absolute certainty, according to Google, Comodo and other website malware scanners, that the code is not on this website.
A vampire Richole said… The world is open,Mike. The people are connected.
Which antivirus software do you have installed? Are you only seeing those links at this website?
Shuang said… Good to know that.you seem like a really expat! BTW Chinese faces are totally different from western's, shouldnt be hard.
Then the only one comment will be appreciated.Let's see your return.
Shuang said… ooh hi Mike...does she? might be a bit because we are common Chinese haha.
It wont be hard to work it out(I'm trying) but thx for your kindly suggestion. ps welcome back to SZ ^ ^
