It seems the definition and the use do not always go hand in hand, according to the above not all caucasians are white. Exactly! But we all know what a Chinese guy means when he says he wants to date a Caucasian girl...

Regarding Chinese men and white women, from what I have seen in Shenzhen it would be like throwing an atom down Shennan Road. Sir, you have put it very precisely. Well said! :-D

marriage is a big thing, you need to be careful,it's nothing to do with race, money or whatever Really?? So what does it have to do with then?!! I think marriage in 90% of cases has to do exactly with that!!

Yes, and the others are also all over HK> One of the is Prince Edward that I mentioned. Wan Chai is further to get to than Prince Edward and the journey from there will be longer and a bit more expensive.

It's not the same as Tenses, which is indeed what they spend a lot of time on in Chinese schools.

I have no idea what such guys are thinking. How on earth do they think they are going to get along with s foreign (European) womena?! Most of them do not even speak good enough English for this! Nothing but 'face gain' pops to mind. He wants to rai…

Agreed, Kam. Caucasian is already 'white' by defitnion. It's a technical term that's applied to mostly the white race (NOT Mongoloid, NOT black and NOT Australasian)., as in people having certain distinctive features of that race.

GOIN' BACK

I think I'm goin' back
To the things
I learned so well
In my youth

I think I'm returning to
Those days
When I was young enough
To know the truth

Now there are no games
To only pass the time
No more colouring books
No Christmas bells to chime

But thinking young
And growing older
Is no sin
And I can play
The game of life to win

I can recall the time
When I wasn't ashamed
To reach out to a friend
And now I think I've got
A lot more than
A skipping rope to lend

Now there's more to do
Than watch my sailboat glide
And everyday can be
My magic carpet ride
And I can play hide and seek with my fears
And live my days instead of counting my years

Let everyone debate the true reality
I'd rather see the world the way it used to be
A little bit of freedom's
All we lack
So catch me if you can
I'm goin' back

New Year and Post New Year Funk

Oh well, New Year has come and gone...The expectation of the festivities, the suspence...I always used to look so much forward to it in my childhood. And feel really sad when it was finished. New Year's Eve back home is equivalent to Christmas Eve in the West, I suppose, or even more important!

We had a fun New Year's Eve in Hong Kong's Ned Kelly's until about 1 am when one of the friends realized that her bag was stolen. :-( It spoilt the night totally, as we weren't in much of a celebrating m… Continue

Christmas in Singapore

Well, I just got back from my short trip to Singapore. Where to begin...

We departed from Hong Kong on Christmas Eve, wearing Santa hats and reindeer horns. :-) Everyone was amused looking at us, everyone wished us a merry Christmas, just as we did to them. The immigration officer at Changi Airport wished me a merry Christmas in Chinese, however his Putonghua was so strange that I could not understand him until he repeated himself 3 times!! :-D Singaporeans must have their special accent in Pu… Continue

I Want to Introduce You to a Boyfriend!!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Jesus bloody Christ, people, I had some fuuuuuun conversation on the phone with my lovely ex-colleague Arlene again!! She was the one who pissed me off one day by asking roundabout questions about my life in Shenzhen, remember??

Well, this time she managed to 'catch' me again by calling from another office number that I didn't save in my phone memory. I was almost prepared to cut that conversation short when suddenly she said she wanted to INTRODUCE me to a potential boyfri… Continue

Back home on a bus...

So yesterday night I missed the last train back to Nanshan (Shenzhen Metro is useless, closing at this ridiculous early time!) and had to take a bus back all the way from Futian.

Not that it was much of a surprise to me, but a couple of guys stared at me for like 5 minutes without changing their facial expressions (bio-robots!), I observed them from the corner of my eye.

Then a third guy got on a bus and he, too, started staring, especially because the way he sat was nearly opposite me. That l… Continue

Their Own Worst Enemy

Was not sure if I should put it up as a discussion or a blog post; I figured the latter.

This is a link to a really nice article by a journalist James Fallows who lived and worked in China for 2 years:

http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200811/chinese-progress

It is a bit long but if you decide to delve into it, it is well worth the read!
The key extracts:

So I return to the puzzle: Why does a society that, like America, impContinue

I checked my trans-siberian info from last year. I paid 1,100 euros for my package which stopped at Baikal, and gave me some time in Moscow. The cheapest that agent does for a direct trip from Beijing to Moscow is 650 euros, 6 days and 5 nights on the train with no stops.

Hi Vic,

If the client gets too pissed off here, then he will terminate the job and the company won’t get paid and I won’t get paid. I’m a contract employee, not full time. It’s an American company, and they have rules about how much can be spent on each person. Rules can be changed, but they have to fill in too many forms, so it’s easier just to live with them. The exhibition is over, so I’ve moved back into a city-centre hotel. I’ll be here till Tuesday then back to the UK for a couple of weeks.

I hope that something good is coming out of your interviews – it’s time something like that happened. The HK property business is well-regulated now, so the agents have to follow and understand the law. If legal language was easy we wouldn’t need lawyers would we?

Thailand was fun - boats on the river in Bangkok and up the River Kwai, street markets, street food, dirty shows, Shannon’s first elephant ride. It was hot there too, but cooled off in the evenings so walking around was fine. It was a very relaxing time – my least pressure for ages. I’ll look forward to more about your trip.

I spent a lot of time organizing and conducting street collections in the UK. There was a charity called PEAL [Parents Experiencing Adult Loss], and I ran the street collection section for a couple of years. It is a pain to organize – you need lots of permissions, insurances, etc, and you need to get the people who promised to come to actually show up. In the UK you are not allowed to ask for money, ring a bell, or anything like that, so it makes it harder.

Yamina was Sales and Marketing Director at Park View at the top of that park. We often used to walk the kids down through it looking at all those fish. It was an easy downhill walk, then a taxi into Stanley for lunch.

See you soon - Mike

Hi Vic,

Yes I'm back in bloody Dubai again. I am totally pissed off with everything about the place and the job. I should be in the UK progressing my personal life or in SZ progresing my jobs, but I'm here because the client likes to know that I'm in town. My hotel is lousy [not literally] - just no facilities and stuck in the middle of nowhere because the town centre places are all full. My back still aches from the 10 hour flight here.

If you've got any good news let me know and cheer me up.

Mike

Jenia mentioned that you were interested in travel packages for the trans siberian.
This past summer I went through monkeyshrine.com. They have offices in both HK and Beijing, and I had a great trip. They will do all the visa work for Americans if needed. Hope this helps.
