Your written English is fine, so you just need practice in speaking and understanding. This is what I just wrote to Kathy:
This is Tiger Eva's Blog "improved me". Her written English was fine before but she had great trouble speaking and especially understanding. We went out a few times and I introduced her to some other good English speakers and now she is fine with full speed English conversation.
It is hard for you to compete with someone as fluent as Carola, so maybe the best idea is a couple of dinners with just the two of us, then get you to meet with more people. That's what I did with Eva.
