Now I am just thinking about if there is anything special or unique I should bring with me from Shenzhen, but I can not come to think of anything. Anyone got any ideas?
I am also trying to figure out what I should see or do in Shenzhen before I leave, if I am not coming back for visit I want to be sure I did not miss anything I would like to see/do.
Maybe I will…

Been hearing a lot about stuff going on in Futian and Luohu, but just FYI, Shekou has a lot to offer as well. A myriad of different restaurants, live music venues and late night parties. This isn't a plug for our place, just a reminder that when you're looking for somewhere to eat and party, Shekou is a very happening area of town. Check us out, we've got a lot to offer!

I've been doing beach parties with my friend Sebastian for several years now. It's become a kind of tradition that we both look forward to every time. Our first party was only announced the day before, and we got 33 of our friends on a bus and had a great time, despite losing a couple hundred RMB in the end. No big deal. Since then, we've learned how to properly arrange a party. Several weeks ago we held our 4th event: Aloha Sunrise Beach Party. We decided to offer as much as possible for as…

After waiting for months, I finally held my surf contest over the New Year's holiday weekend. What a great last minute call! A lot of people were already busy with NYE plans, but we jam packed a small bus full of people, dj equipment, booze, and headed to the beach in time to set up for New Years Eve. After drinking, dancing, mixing, and stumbling until 3AM, we crashed and woke up for a full day of surfing on the first day of 2010. With a free flow of beer, tunes on the beach all day, plenty of…

I am super excited about a beach party I am organizing with my friends (& spinning as well). It'll be the first big beach party of the year here in Shenzhen. We did one last year, and despite only announcing the party one day in advance, got about 35 people (mostly good friends) to come and had the party of the summer. Never mind the fact we lost several hundred yuan; it was all good. This time we are doing things a little different, that is, planning and putting the word out a month in…

You might know I am crazy about drum n' bass and have therefore decided to try to create a scene here in Shenzhen by throwing a party once a month. The time has come again, and this time I am excited to say that we have a few guest DJs from Hong Kong for the next party in the series!
DJ Wash and Electronic Mistress of Hong Kong will grace the turntables this Saturday night at True Colors 25th floor. Rice the Beat Chef will be opening up with his self produced "Bit-Hop". If you are a…

The paper held a fund raising party for the victims of the earthquake last weekend, featuring a variety of
local expat musicians. The closing act was a band featuring
Leon Clark, who is quite the photographer himself, and little did I know also a bass player (above). All in all, 100,000 RMB was raised for the Red Cross…

This was one of those big staged official pompous events with tons of Chinese photographers from all the other Shenzhen media - nothing to get excited about as a photographer. However, this time it was a bit different. Tsingdao was apparently a sponsor because everyone in attendance (mostly migrant workers) was provided with free beer. It wasn't long before the other photographers started handing cans of beer to me, and we all started throwing them down…
