At one table, two birdbrains carping at each other

In one bathroom, two agile otters occupying  a single pocket of turf

In front of one big mirror, two opponents snarling at each other

A voice from above

A place where he never knows

Toiling through a long spell

In which he experienced a lot of hardship

His weathered, frail hands

Deep furrows etched on the forehead

Emaciated, jelly legs failing to rise

Wobbly steps attesting to his infirmity

The worn-out, withered look of his soul

Sapped by a string of health issues

Making him a walking skeleton

A dull hoary crown

Is the only precious award…

A blanket of glistening white above

Overshadowed in a sudden darkness

With pounding hearts

Trapped in consternation

Endeavouring to mutter a prayer

Anticipating a slice of hope

Baffled by a cynical deed

The zipping of luminous lightning

The rumbling of ruthless thunder

The lashing of crying rain

No sign of response

No throb of pain

No word of mercy
