Being back to France means many changes in my life.

One of them is being back to working with my dad in his restaurant.

To be honest, it's a terrible situation. The job itself is not that bad. It's the environment that sucks. It's a very special world, I don't belong to it anymore. My colleagues are nice people but they know nothing else than this job, their whole life revolves around it. I feel like my talents are being unexploited. I refuse to work full-time in order to spend time with my daughter, and it's not seen as a good thing by some of my colleagues.

That's why, people, I've decided to go back to school in October for two or three years. I want to get a degree in logistics that I will couple with an actual degree in Chinese. The problem is that financially it's going to be tough if I don't get this monthly allowance from the government. In 10 days, I will have a test and an interview. According to my results, the school will decide if I deserve the allowance or not. English, maths and geography are the three subjects that I will be tested on.

With that degree I will be able to get a good job, and maybe to work abroad. But that would be the cherry on top of the cake, pardon my Frenglish.

So wish me luck, I will need it!

Hey, Val, I only just got to read this one now.

I am sure you made the right decision going back to school, if that's what will help you get ahead in your career.
I think I can COMPLETELY understand it that you left China and are not missing it, I am exactly the same.
I'd go back to Moscow easily if it wasn't for William's job and I am sure I'd be happy there. Moreover, after our trip to the UK (see my blog), I am more than convinced that one day we shall leave Hong Kong.

Kind of scary to read David, saying that he wanted to tirn back as soon as he landed in Heathrow. For me, it was almost the opposite: I REALLY didn't want to leave because there were still so many great things I could in London, and people I could srr but had no time for.

I know exactly what you mean by not being able to fit in the catering world of your father's any more. It certainly doesn't mean you've been Asiafied, it's just that these people must be on a totally different wavelength with you, living in their own, rather limited, world. All you need is a more meaningful existence, that's it. And I am sure you can get there! :-))

As long as you are sure that you will get a better job which is good for both your daughter and you, of course you should go for it. :-)

You are a smart and brave woman who can live in a tough environment like China for so many years, I believe you are able to make a right decision and make it success.

Chris, because with a degree in logistics I'm assured to get a job that will allow me to use my foreign languages skills. I don't want to become a teacher here. It will also be easier to relicate abroad if I ever want to.

Why logistics?

Zomb, good luck with returning home. Overall it's positive for me. there are upsides and downsides, but I don't believe life is always perfect. It's just about making the best out of imperfect situations. And this can be done wherever you are and whatever you do. I'm lucky enough to have a choice.
Bastien, I know for sure Cned is not for me. But thanks for the suggestion. Maybe I'll use that for some side course.
