▼Assault on Women: Reflections▼

The wincesome experience you probably just had thanks to the report above, need not be
relegated to Women's Health and Development or Africa alone. A disturbing & unfortunate
aspect of the human condition is the friction between Dignity and Interference. Where-
ver the growth, development or blossoming of individuals (in this case, female children
and adolescent's natural physique) is being interfered with, or stifled outright through
shameless perpetuation of wickedness, the nebulous role of ignorance very often is
at play. I've learned for instance, that it is not enough to know that Ignorance is
the state of being completely unaware, uneducated, uninformed, misinformed
and/or apathetic to one's own ignorance. I think the moment one writes off
the above as a Cameroonian, Central or West African problem, they're trig
-gering a line of reasoning sure to result in even greater ignorance. Like
the time when a culturally incompetent reader denied racism while
attempting to re-explain my blog based on his bubble of irreality as
Mainland Chinese visitors knowing better looked on from my apart
-ment in disbelief and amusement. It makes no difference how
formally educated one is. Proof of ignorance begins where,
like the inability to grant another their human dignity, one
consistently interferes with others' growth, presuming to
know better, or somehow seeking to dictate—like the
mother obsessively does in the video—the terms of
another's future happiness or present progress. It
never ceases to amaze me. Despite my African
blood, despite having lived and experienced
the Continent and its diverse cultures, I am
just as disgusted by this human tendency,
as I am by my Filipina friend's ex-beau,
who cut off her nipples & effectively
disfigured her for life, in a jealous
rage. Read more about Breast
Ironing & other acts of vio-
lence against women. But
always ask yourself: Are
my intolerant or dark
views of/need to
suppress others,
tantamount to
ironing their
potential &
Dignity?

Good to see you again! And hope you're having a groovy weekend;-)
Your avatar is hot. But your mind's even more attractive.

Comment by THiNKTaNK on October 20, 2012 at 11:23am Mary Dear...Thanks for stopping by.
Unfortunately, I can confirm that it's very true. This is the real world. And the BBC did a report on Breast Ironing yesterday. Google BBC Newsday and add yesterday's date and it should point you there.
I'm particularly proud of your curiosity towards life. For seeing a title and checking it out. Many remain ignorant (or live in a bubble) today and will remain so, because they look for heroes..instead of ideas. You...you're different! God Bless!
Comment by Mary on October 20, 2012 at 10:53am gosh, that's really horrible! I wish It's not true, but I believe it was.
