One day, if I'm not dead, I will honor a long and strong oral tradition (griot),

and speak truthfully of hideous and strange experiences rare conscientious Chinese witnessing the same thing responded "恶心" (disgusting) to.

Those covering their noses as "laowai" (foreigners) walked in.

How fear of failing at anything; of committing even to

a conversation or worthy goals ran, run, ruin

and relegate to permanent stupefaction

otherwise wonderful and beautiful

human beings lacking skills

they think they have

just by assertion

and denial.

Those reaching for public transport windows visibly gasping for air as

"the laowai" or foreigner walked in. The insecure who push(es)

and insist their sister, partner, the one more afraid or

involuntarily designated as needing protection

towards the farthest seat. The lady or man

who wants to communicate with you

and yet is plagued by the fear

of self-erected barriers.

"Sorry, I can't help

myself" said

one.

What a horrible way to live, however seemingly content. As if witnessing

a ghastly wound, I keep and kept asking myself a question whose

answering requires no rocket science formula:

Who did this to you? Who did this?

The erratic, childish, or calculating ones hiding behind computer screens

playing small, playing safe, inconsiderately playing games with others'

time; or playing "I'm simple" or "traditional" fill-in-the-blanks.

Few I meet or interact with appear to

have the courage to fail.

All I saw, and still see, is irrational fear and often, blatant hubris and

inconsideration accompanying spoiled foreigners and localites.

And what that does to — in some cases otherwise good

people lacking the moral character to realize they're

not good people "right now" explains

even the current uncertainties

in the global economy.

The toll, in terms of human relations is akin to the Editors of Time

Magazine seeing nothing wrong with omitting Blacks

and Hispanics from this year's 9/11 Tribute.

And if you still can't wrap your head around that, consider this: barely

five minutes into the forty-three minute feature video on women

in this blog, my assistant loudly interrupted saying: "I don't

see any Asians or Chinese" whereupon I jovially

retorted, "Ah. Now you know how it feels".

It is for the same reason blogs like Greed vs. Tragic Ignorance exist.

The ethics such perpetrators or accomplices of injustice practice;

what (and who) they avoid, and their silences speak

volumes for no one needs a rocket scientist

or investigator to reveal they have

opinions, often bigoted.

Many, driven by herd instinct, dark prejudices and/or pretensions,

lack the courage and skills to transcend "Hello", to pick up

a phone and call when it matters.

Or, to help the needy.

They are unaware it's "none of your business" is strictly contextual;

that you cannot know, give, receive, or keep Love if you

don't know or like to embrace truth.

Such people who live a lie, chase the sensational worshiping images

and façade rather than transcending the self and narcissistic

to appreciate true beauty or true love shield

themselves from reality, hence

the foregoing.

I am a firm believer in leaving people to pursue whatever makes

them happy so long as it doesn't forcefully interfere with

my well-being. Nevertheless, a lot of people I meet

these days are afraid. And fear emanates from

ignorance of the truth, which sometimes

requires self-critique and history.

And being ignorant of one's

ignorance is the beginning

of stupidity unless one

is willing to learn

and unlearn.

Well said, Sir!

...hence the word "courage".

The courage to let go and stop trying to control everything...The courage to refrain from being too eager to be a part of that "we" you speak of for better or worse...The courage, like many young Chinese I've met and counseled (or those who committed suicide at Foxconn), to command respect from their oppressive families (in the false or misguided name of "culture")...Families that want them to stay in the village when they know it's better to go seek a greener pastures for their parents; families that allow the kids to migrate only to expect their youth to get a spouse, be instantly successful, buy a house and marry...the same...year.

The courage even in my case often (and I fail too often), to get up and stretch or shut the PCs down and take a break instead of being fixated on incomplete tasks and deadlines.

Fear...courage...fear...courage = discipline:-)

Have a pleasant weekend JM.

We are afraid of everything! We are taught to be in constant freight... When we have it we are afraid to lose it, if we don't have it we are afraid we'll never have it, if we lose it.....
