Shenzhen Stuff

I have been taking some time off from work lately and started enjoying the weekends more. My area of choice in SZ is OCT loft with its cozy cafeterias, nice jazz bars, art galleries and design shops. A lot is going on in terms of exhibitions at the moment and I just want to share what I have been into during the last two Saturdays.

Many people complain about the lack of a real cultural life here in town, and although the scene is far from being hectic or totally satisfactory I think the overall atmosphere has improved and it's quite easy to stroll around OCT and crash in some exhibition openings.

Here what I attended in no particular order.

1) A Philosophy lecture on Alexander Kojève ( French diplomat and philosopher), whose pictures and postcards are currently exposed in OCT loft, right in front of Yidutang.

2) Exhibition at B10 art space right in front of the Old Heaven bookshop: I am mot sure whether the exhibition is a collective  or a personal one (check the website bonadesign.cn if you want), but it's worth a look.

3)Two personal painting exhibitions hosted at the same time at the He Xiangning Art Museum on the Shennan Da Dao, next to the Galleon.

4) Last but not the least: Dutch design exhibition at the OCT art and Design Gallery, always next to the Galleon.

Each one is worth your time I think: it's a good way to spend a free afternoon, to get in touch with the art scene of SZ and to expose yourself to some kind of diversity. Enjoy.

My friends and I are used to get together there in the past years.  This year I find it a little bit crowded during weekend and holidays.  However, it is still a good choice during week days.
