I've been to the Music Heaven set of shops by Science Museum that Dram mentioned.. exit D. Bought 2 guitars in that area.. a bass and acoustic/electric. Very good quality and good prices if you look around. Sam Lee in HK has many choices but I think their prices are a bit high. But they have everything.

You can get a couple acoustics and 1 electric (fender) model at the little store under the escalators in the CBD concert hall across the street from the CBD library. I was there the other day and saw they have maybe 6 acoustics and the one used stratocaster model among many violins, and traditional chinese things that play like guitars. Prices seemed reasonable too

It depends upon how much you wish to spend. As The Fred says, Tom Lee in Tsim Sha Shui is great and have received lots of my money too.

I recently bought an American Standard Stratocaster for 8000rmb from Louis as Lava Music in Guangzhou. His wechat is: Lavaweixin  Louis speaks English (well enough) and has stock that is in my opinion better than Tom Lee.

If you want something cheaper, try Taobao. I bought a Marina (Farida) acoustic for my wife on Taobao for 1700rmb. It is a really nice guitar and sounds awesome through an amp. Even browse Taobao to find what you like and have an idea about the prices so you are well armed when you front at a shop and don't pay the Gweilo Price.

My friend is selling his 'as new' Epiphone Les Paul Gold Top with P9 pickups for 2500rmb.

It depends what kind of guitar you want. Sendy Music next to the university is the best but their inventory changes and often times they dont have anything. If you want quality and selection...the only place...TOM LEE in HK is the best....Ive spent a small fortune there and get a boner everytime I go

There's a music shop at the north end of book city, exit e (i think) of Childrens Palace. For more choice try Music Heaven in Luohu, near Science Museum (exit D)
