▼Transcending Criticism, Rejection, Assholes & Pressure▼
NB: A Blog is Not a Waitress. Be Inspired. Or Take Your Tastes Elsewhere.
Exactly a year ago, I shared rejection experiences and insights on a website. But in life and
online as you wrestle with life's challenges, dear son, daughter, brother, friend and family,
you can expect hypersensitive earthlings reacting (not originating anything themselves)
to engage wildly in much chattering, flopping, hissing, rolling & snarling. But, butterfly,
I just want to share a life-defining crucible as I continue to archive unfolding accounts
of the saga for as always, my content's for a much more diverse audience. We were
in Africa then. My big brother had just returned from America and my mother was
having dinner on one of two balconies overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, requested
some table salt. I volunteered; if you can picture this: with childlike energy and
Usain Boltlike speed, to fetch the salt downstairs. One millisecond later (that
is, assuming your mind is still wandering), I was back with salt in my palm &
not only that, I was wearing a proud grin on my face. My mom slapped me
so hard I swear I heard the full force, weight of the timpani, crescendo
and intensity of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 (Scherzo) inside my ears
and throughout my entire being. And the rest of the silence I felt, in
the meanwhile, as in the silence of an audience, it turned out, was
only that of the schadenfreude of my two brothers who up until
that moment believed I, as the last born, was the favored son.
As they (now the audience) erupted into applause, or more
appropriately, laughter, and I recovered from the shock, I
realized my mistake. Just as people who have class don't
embark on a hate, backstabbing, slander, defamation,
sabotage or subversion excursion against those who
"reject" them on principle, in the same way, some
-where in my upbringing I was taught, or should
have known to present food (much like Thai
food comes with artistic style), with class.
A saucer would have sufficed you see but
that prepared me for bigger challenges
& rejections due to my skin tone. Elite
circles in a world where talent is as
universal as opportunity isn't. And
where White privilege is a fact
just like racism is a cancer you
can have, without knowing.
You wanna know a person's
true character? Reject him
a number of times, if that
so-called "rejection" can
grounds. Then watch
him go off and about
ripping your repu-
tation or recalcu-
late and mature
thanks to your
tough love.

Comment by THiNKTaNK on April 26, 2012 at 3:00pm 13!! Wow. I have so many stories from that age
You're a brave (and an intelligent) woman. And I'm inspired. Much respect!
Comment by Helen on April 26, 2012 at 2:46pm Yes I understand. My upbringing was tough/strict that I hated my parents for 14 years coz of the C.R.A.P they gave me. And for 14 years I did not understand the principle and that made me move in to my own place at 13. NOW I understand the "C.R.A.P" made me successful and independent. I would thanks my parents for the CRAP

Don't worry. It'll hit you later. It happens to many readers except the really slow ones who need more than a decade. But you...Charlie, you'll be out somewhere minding your business, chasing a girl drinking Carnation wondering if it
rhymes with Tarnation :-) or the nation of haters trying to tarnish Charlie's image, then BoooOOOM! It'll hit you like a bolt. Then, you'll be like: "Oh I get his Blog now...I get it!!"
Take it easy.
