Many website owners have the wish to be nr 1 in the search engines. But many of them makes mistakes in these wishes. Because sometimes it's not needed to be nr 1 and it's better to be at a lower position.

Oke, let's take the sample of a second hand Porsche dealer and he has a Porsche 911 year 1978 in his showroom he wants to promote on the internet. So ask the man which position he wants to have in the search engines and probably he answers he wants to be nr 1 for the search "Porsche 911 1978"

Good thinking because after a research in adwords it tell's us about 50 people every month are searching for this model. And competition is very low so a nr 1 position is possible to reach in a easy way.

Something wrong here.

But there's something the matter here. Why? Because buyers of second hand cars like to buy in the neighbourhood of their hometown and don't buy far away. So if he's nr 1 and the potential buyer is located 250 km away this potential buyer will look for a local dealer not to far away.

Second issue is the low amount of visitors. Only 50 potential websurfers who visit the website every month.

Another keyword, "Porsche 911" however gives 19.000 hits every month. Oke, not all websurfers are looking to buy a Porsche and maybe only have interest in this brand. But even then the 19.000 hits are interesting because a higher amount of visitors will provide a higher pagerank which is also important to have. And even when not everybody is a potential buyer you maybe attract potential buyers who are looking for a Porsche 911 around 1978. Because it's not a hard fact everybody who's looking for a 1979 model really only wants this model but are also open for a 1978 model.

In fact many website owners forget about this strategy to get more visitors to your website and get more leads.

So, resuming, don't always focus on a nr 1 position. A nr 5 position in this case can bring about 1.000 visitors every month to the website and this is a lot more as the 50 for the search on the specific 1978 model.
