On our recent trip my son was teaching our companion how to sand slide. She was holding the camera. It got dropped. Fine sand was everywhere and it was making most uncameralike grinding noises when zoomed. I thought I could get it fixed here, but I had to take it to HK.
They inspected it and said it could be fixed by replacing the optical parts for HK$1,100. OK I said and left it with them. Then they emailed and said it couldn’t be fixed but that they would sell me a new camera with extra features for the price they had quoted for the repair. This camera sells for GBP349 on Amazon HK. Thank you Canon.
Of course it cost me more than that because the Canon place is in the same building as a Marks and Spencer food store. So, on both trips, I had to buy many pork pies, sausage rolls, fruit yoghurts, doughnuts, etc.
