The ThiNKiNG Man's Game: Security Posture (CVN 65)

You're Still On a Need-to-Know Basis

○ ○ ○○ ○ ○

Simplicity, like "100% Security", is a concoction of those who live in a bubble of irreality.

Sometimes you will be deliberately protected from things you might not want to know.

That way, and the BBC agrees: you know that when you claim not to know things, no

one could know for sure if you knew them or not. And it makes no difference whe-

ther you're the boss or a subordinate. In exactly 15 words, my security posture

has been on every profile page of mine since the early 1990s. 'Simply stated:

I open up to GENUINE people after positively vetting them. Earn the privi-

lege to know. Have the courage to ask. The caveat and operative word

is "ask". Unfortunately, most people don't read carefully and others

who do, lack the right genuine motives and so, fail the test, thus

resorting to speculation and assumptions. I can't and won't tell

you if you don't ask because once I tell you, you know. "And

it might be better if you didn't know. Because once you

know you can't say you didn't know. You never know

when you might need to claim you didn't know in

which case it's much better to claim you ac-

tually didn't know rather than having to

pretend you didn't know when in fact

you knew." So whatever I know, it

would be better for for me to

ensure you don't know and

don't ask. And if you're

going to ask, be sure

you're genuinely

qualified for

the truth
