I am amazed that you got turned down for your visa, considering some of the people who teach in SZ. I mentioned your case to one of the good guys, and he said that you sounded over-qualified, and would therefore be too expensive for most SZ schools.
I still don’t have an arrival date myself, but I’m hoping for early October. My flat does have a spare bedroom – none of those little luxuries of course, like curtains, but my daughter always managed to sleep off her hangover there. The cost of living in SZ is very low, and if you don’t have to pay rent and you don’t buy too many presents, then you could stay for a month on £200 or have a really good time on £300. The usual payment in kind would be expected – see the last sentence of my “Back from the Difu” blog.

PS Think how much you would have regretted it for the rest of your life if you’d not even tried. That’s been my way.
PPS Get the China tourist visa before you leave UK if you possibly can.
I just came back to office today from my 3 days holiday.Im really tired & sleepy due to the holidays also just moved to new house and did all cleaning house work.><
More then 20pcs mails I got this morning when I just open my mailbox, now still coming one by one, need to bury myself at work now....have a nice day!
HI Middie - keep in touch ... I'm not ready for the move just yet, but would love to know details of your experience. You still going to be teaching there?
Leaving at the end of October so even if you're visa is delayed I'm sure we can get together for a beer or two! Have you decided where you're going to be living?
Nice to talk to you - once you know where you're going to be working let me know and I'll give you my advice on where to live, and where to avoid.
I won't be there when you get there, but CK will - have you got his phone number? As soon as I get there, we'll meet for a dinner with some of my good friends.
No, it don't work like that. I sent you a message through the SZStuff mailing system, which also gets sent to your email address. My guess [see my comment of 27th July] is that you replied to that, and it just vanishes. I'll forgive you - this time.
I'm just back from Tesco - a mile and a half walk in the rain - so I'm just fine. I think that you're really lucky to be going to Shenzhen - I wish that I was going sometime soon, but I'm still waiting for the email.
